How to make a stone grill with your own hands. How to make a brazier out of stone with decorative materials Brazier from natural stone

A stone grill, made in compliance with all construction standards and architectural norms, will become a real decoration of any suburban area. The structure is best built from natural stone, using natural materials - sand and clay. Any summer resident or home owner can construct such a structure with minimal financial investment, and the benefits from it will be significant. The structure can be made in the style of decorating a recreation area, which will additionally decorate the area of a country house or cottage. The grill is very convenient and multifunctional; it perfectly prepares dishes from meat, vegetables and fish. The amazing decorative and functional properties of natural stone are perfect for any landscape and will optimally complement it.

Selecting a location

Before you start building a stone grill, you need to find a suitable place for it. The structure may be located near the recreation area, in a convenient part of the site. It is very good if there is a reservoir, pond, pool or alpine slide nearby. The barbecue itself, with an ensemble of gazebos and decorative elements, can decorate any garden plot and turn into the center of landscape architecture. When choosing a location, it is necessary to take into account the fire safety of this structure. Therefore, you should evaluate in advance the priority direction of the wind in the construction area, and also pay attention to the groundwater level at the location of the barbecue and the topography of the site.

Preparatory work

Having chosen a place to build a barbecue, you should decide on its parameters in terms of height, width and length. The dimensions directly depend on the volume of food that you plan to cook, namely, you need to calculate the maximum number of skewers for one bookmark and take into account their length. To make the work easier, you can sketch out a small drawing, which will not only help during work. Using the drawing, it is convenient to calculate the required amount of consumables and building materials. If you plan to attach a cutting surface to the grill, you can provide water for washing in advance and supply it to the fireplace. This is very convenient for further operation of the structure.

Construction of the foundation

You need to start building a barbecue by preparing the site and building a foundation for the structure. The foundation is necessary so that during periods of temperature and humidity changes the grill does not fall apart or move from the designated place. The foundation for the barbecue is a monolithic slab of concrete about 10 cm thick. A base is first prepared for it, a small pit is dug, which should be 20 cm wider than the planned barbecue on each side. First, crushed stone and sand are poured into the finished trench. They are carefully compacted, constantly watering them with water. Along the perimeter of the trench, formwork is erected from boards or plywood. A reinforcing frame is mounted on the prepared base from any pieces of wire, reinforcement, residues and metal. Such a frame is needed to strengthen the foundation and its strength. A concrete mixture of sand, cement and water is poured onto the prepared base. You can add a little small crushed stone to the solution. The finished surface is allowed to stand for several days for the concrete mixture to set. Before continuing work, the concrete base is covered with roofing felt or other waterproofing material.

Construction

It is advisable to use stone that is resistant to high temperatures and large temperature changes for the construction of the barbecue. The frame of the building can be laid out from natural bricks, and the firebox itself can be made from refractory bricks. If this is not found, an ordinary red building brick or a natural stone well soaked in water, which is not afraid of significant temperature loads, will do.

When preparing the structure, you must remember to leave space below for a blower. You can also provide a separate compartment for storing firewood, coals and other necessary accessories.

Brick or stone laying is carried out using clay mortar. To do this, the clay is soaked in water for several days and then mixed with sand in a ratio of 1:3. If you plan to make a canopy over the barbecue from a metal canopy, you should pre-install embedded parts into the structure for future fastening. Before laying, the brick should also be thoroughly moistened in water.

Decorative cladding

Stones for cladding are placed on cement mortar. The stones are first washed from dirt, chips are removed, and during the installation process they are fitted to the installation site so that the structure looks more dense and beautiful. You can lay out a small area with stone near the fireplace so that everything looks harmonious and natural. Outside the grill, you can provide special metal hooks for important accessories.

Brazier is a magic word. As soon as you pronounce it, the smell of smoke appears, mesmerizing coals flicker before your eyes, and a tender piece of meat seems to melt in your mouth. For me personally, a barbecue in my own yard is a wonderful and obvious necessity. For those who have the same opinion, I suggest repeating your own design from brick and stone.

Ideas for barbecues made of stone: look at the photo and choose

“There is no accounting for taste,” as they say, which means you should evaluate several building designs in order to ultimately lean towards the proposed option or get interesting ideas and do something your own at home. In my opinion, in a garden or dacha it is convenient to make a stationary product that will serve for a long time and decorate the area.

In its simplest form, it can be a structure on the ground in the form of a fire. Labor and material costs in this case are low, and the grill looks attractive. However, “handling” the skewers while bending in half is not very convenient.

Here is an example of conciseness and harmony: the barbecue and the platform have a round shape, everything is made of the same granite. Simple and tasteful, but costs a lot.

The photo shows a gabion-shaped structure: small pebbles in a mesh. The appearance of the product is quite unique, but with a metal fence you will have to tinker a lot.

In fact, in front of us is a stove: first they burn wood and then fry the meat on coals. A solid and beautiful building with space for firewood. Taking into account the slab cast from concrete and a large amount of natural material, a lot of work was spent in this case.

The photo shows a whole complex for preparing a variety of delicious food in nature. There is a cutting table, a place for firewood, and an impressive oven vent capable of feeding a large company. Of course, such pleasure looks fabulous and also costs fabulously.

Design and dimensions of a homemade barbecue for a summer residence

Why did you choose a barbecue made of natural stone and brick? I proceeded from the following considerations:

  • the natural material fits well into the surrounding landscape, especially since the retaining walls on the site are made of the same stone;
  • durable and reliable construction will last for many years in conditions of exposure to sun, rain and snow;
  • very important - unlike a metal product, natural material does not need to be painted annually;
  • “metal workers” will not take the result of my labor for scrap metal when no one is home for a long time;
  • I really wanted to try my hand at laying natural stone and create something new.

Critics will note the following negative factors:

  • natural material costs a lot, and delivery also requires certain costs and effort;
  • Stone masonry is not an easy task, especially if you lack experience.

To level out these difficulties, I decided to build a small tabletop barbecue myself. At the same time, brick was used to lay the arched vault and rectangular brazier. As a result, it was possible to simplify the work and reduce the overall cost of the product. To calculate the amount of materials, the following sketch was required.

In order to properly make the most beautiful and comfortable product, you need to ensure the correct parameters, which are adopted based on the following considerations:

  • The table height is 850mm, which is convenient for standing work;
  • The width of the frying pan was chosen to be 340mm, based on the size of the available skewers;
  • its length is 770mm, it provides accommodation for at least 10 skewers;
  • the depth of the fryer was chosen from practical experience in cooking shish kebab;
  • The width of the table is 300mm, which corresponds to the size of the existing tiles, and this table is convenient for placing a tray.

The above drawings demonstrate that the barbecue is placed on a foundation, the arch arch rests on a frame made of reinforcement, and the back wall is also made of brick. There are 4 triangular holes in the brazier to supply air to the combustion area.

Based on the calculations, according to the above diagram, you need to purchase:

  • about 100pcs. bricks;
  • 65pcs. medium-sized stones 160x100x100mm (stones are counted on the finished product);
  • three pieces of reinforcement with a diameter of 8-12mm and a length of 1.6m to organize the arch;
  • several pieces of reinforcement or thick wire for pouring the base of the building;
  • cement and sand for mortar;
  • crushed stone for the foundation;
  • heat-resistant mixture for laying stoves and fireplaces;
  • several porcelain tiles for the table.

As practice has shown, ordinary solid red brick of good quality has served for years without any damage. As for the stone, you should choose it based on appearance, price and availability in your region. There is no point in worrying about choosing the name of the stone, since almost any type of stone is suitable for building a barbecue.

Step-by-step instructions for making a barbecue with your own hands

Before starting construction, you should think carefully about the location of the barbecue.

The building must fit into the landscape, be located near the entrance to the house, and ensure safety of use. There should be no trees, bushes, firewood, debris or anything else that could ignite in the immediate vicinity. In our case, the kebab is prepared next to the covered terrace, where it can be enjoyed in the fresh air, without fear of rain and sun.

At the same time, I made mistakes that were later revealed:

  • The building is located too close to the fence, which leads to its strong heating. The fencing coating may deteriorate. The problem was solved by using a hinged lid.
  • The building is located on a site made of crushed stone, which provides protection from fire. At the same time, the synthetic lawn of the children's playground is too close to the burning site and was slightly damaged by sparks flying from the fryer. You have to be careful and watch the fire.

I hope you can avoid such troubles based on my experience. The following is step-by-step instructions for building a homemade stationary device.

Let's make the foundation first

A building made of brick and stone must rest on a foundation, otherwise it will collapse.

In this case, there is no need to lay the foundation below the soil freezing depth. It is enough to make the base in the form of a concrete slab, which will move along with the masonry when the soil moves during frosts.

To do this, it is necessary to prepare a pit with a depth of about 30 cm, at the bottom of which sand is first laid in a layer of 5-10 cm, and the same layer of crushed stone is poured on top of it. Next, four reinforcement bars are laid crosswise, which are positioned using pebbles at a height of 5 cm from the crushed stone.

Before pouring concrete, it is necessary to prepare three pieces of reinforcement, the ends of which are placed in the casting. The reinforcement should be bent, checking against a template made on fiberboard or plywood.

The ends of the reinforcement that will be in the foundation extend beyond the template. It is convenient to bend the rods using a vice. There is no need to ensure perfect bending smoothness. The blanks should be knitted with wire to the frame in concrete and at a distance of 170mm from each other.

Before pouring concrete, it is necessary to arrange formwork from boards 120-150mm wide. The mixture must be prepared in accordance with my recommendations in the article. Next, a concrete slab 10-15 cm thick is poured. The casting should be covered with a piece of polyethylene and left for several days, periodically moistening the concrete.

Now you need to build a structure of stone and brick

The construction of the building begins from the inside, that is, the arch is first laid out with bricks. Next we make the outer walls using stone.

At this stage, a fairly thick cement mortar is used. To trim brick and stone, you need a grinder. As the solution dries, the outer parts of the stone are cleaned of cement. This operation is performed with a damp cloth.

We line the rear part of the fuel niche visible from the front with stone. Further work is carried out with bricks. After completing the arch, you need to lay out a brick surface for the brazier. The plane and slope of the external walls are controlled by a level.

Cut the corners off the four vertical bricks on the front and back sides of the roasting pan to create air holes. We also leave passages in the appropriate places on the front wall in the masonry. Thus, our building has “eyes”.

Adding a table, lid and decoration

It is convenient if the grill has space for a tray and other accessories. For these purposes, I used the remains of porcelain stoneware.

In a niche under the brazier, firewood was hidden from the rain.

A mosaic that came from Tunisia found its place on the side wall.

Subsequently, a cover was made for the barbecue from galvanized and painted metal, matching the color of the fence. It protects the latter from excessive heat, does not allow the wind to blow the ashes and does not let snow inside.

If you love barbecue and cook it yourself, then at your dacha you can make a barbecue grill that will decorate your country house. It is important to note that the design performs many functions, so you can cook a wide variety of dishes from vegetables, fish and meat on it.

A stone barbecue cannot be made next to structures or cesspool plantings. The ideal place is a site near a pond or recreation area that is protected from the winds.

The structure is built on a foundation, so the site must be checked for groundwater depth. Each stone must be prepared before laying, which is not an easy task. Therefore, not every person decides to take on the construction of a structure with their own hands.

For masonry, you can buy a special adhesive mixture or make a cement-sand mortar. Modern manufacturers also offer products with ingredients that improve heat-resistant and moisture-resistant properties.

If possible, use a special mortar mixer or concrete mixer. This will significantly reduce construction time.

Do-it-yourself barbecue: drawings and photos with step-by-step instructions

Before starting the construction of the barbecue, you need to decide on the design and type of structure. Since natural stone can have different shapes, it is possible to develop a large number of projects. It can be a neat or chaotic building. Regardless of the type of structure, it consists of a brazier and a base.

When preparing the diagram and drawing, you need to indicate the dimensions of all parts, as well as the following parameters:

  • Height. Most often, barbecues are made at a height of up to 90 cm. But this is all individual, and largely depends on the height of the person.
  • Width. To fit about 10 skewers in the roasting pan, 50 cm is enough.
  • Depth. It depends on the type of skewers or grill. Experts often make the depth 20 cm.

Below is a project for the construction of a dome shape.

When the plan is ready, you should begin making the structure from natural stone. Construction work lasts several weeks, as it is necessary to adjust the masonry elements and wait for the cement-sand mixture to dry.

The future structure will be quite heavy, so you need to prepare a reliable foundation. The best option is a concrete base.

To do this, you need to dig a pit 25 cm deep, the bottom of which must be filled with water and thoroughly compacted. When the ground dries, 1/3 of the hole should be filled with gravel and sand. For greater reliability, it is recommended to lay the reinforcement, then prepare the concrete solution.

The lower part of the base should be 15 cm above the ground. It acts as a base.

Laying natural stone is practically no different from laying brick. But before this, it is recommended to wet the material. All joints must be carefully adjusted and lubricated with cement mixture. For better binding, metal rods are used.

Basic design drawing:

Large gaps can be filled with broken stone.

A barbecue with natural irregularities looks more effective, so it is not necessary to achieve completely smooth walls. But such work can only be done by professionals, otherwise the structure will not be strong enough. Protrusions can be achieved using facing materials.

With each row, you will get closer to the place of the woodcutter and brazier. Metal jumpers and spacers allow you to fix the shape. To arrange a place for fuel, you need to install a cast iron grate and frame.

The work table is also made of natural stone to achieve a unified design.

When the rough work is completed, the surface must be cleaned of excess mortar. If necessary, the remains of stones can be used as additional decorative elements.

To finish the structure, you can use different types of stone. If you choose the right color and texture, you can create a unique design for your barbecue.

Below are projects from different artists.

Scheme and drawing of a do-it-yourself stone barbecue for home and garden

Before construction work, natural stone must be prepared, that is, carefully processed. This process takes a long time.

You also need to develop a project, and only then begin the construction of the structure. The diagrams should be in two sections.

When performing procedures, it is necessary to consult with specialists, otherwise the service life of the barbecue will be short.

Regardless of the type of structure, it is necessary to prepare the base. If the future structure will have a height of more than 1 m, then the foundation is laid below the depth of soil freezing. Otherwise, the grill may tilt.

To do this, you need to dig a pit 15 cm deep, make formwork and fill it with concrete. Clay can be used as waterproofing. When the foundation is ready and hardened, the construction of the walls should begin. The evenness of the surface is determined using a level. Experts recommend building a wooden frame to achieve even corners.

During laying, do not forget to leave a special hole for the blower. It is recommended to strengthen the inner edge of the structure with steel tape.

When the structure has set, you need to light small fires to speed up drying. The platform can also be laid out from natural stone.

After completing all the stages of rough work, you need to work on the appearance of the grill. Decorative and facing elements are suitable for this.

Thus, if you have experience in stone laying, you can independently make a unique structure for cooking in your summer cottage.

Today, the topic of building all kinds of stoves, barbecues, smokehouses and, of course, barbecues is very popular among owners of country houses. Everything listed above mainly came to us from abroad, and everything new is very interesting) A barbecue can be made from metal, brick, stone or blocks, it all depends on the preference of the owner and his financial capabilities. A stationary stove laid by a specialist is an expensive pleasure, but if you build it yourself, it will be quite affordable.

The basis was a granite stone measuring 20x20 cm and a cement-sand mixture. The foundation is poured, and then the base is laid out in the shape of the letter “E”. The tabletop is concrete.

So, let's look at what exactly is needed to build a stone barbecue?

Step-by-step instructions for building a stone barbecue with your own hands.

As in any other construction, it all starts with the foundation, namely, the necessary area is cleared and the top layer of earth is removed along with the turf. A hole 25-30 cm deep is dug, this is quite enough, a 10 cm layer of grit is placed on the bottom, that is, granular screenings mixed with cement in a ratio of 1:4, moistened with water, compacted and leveled in the process. Next, rubble stone is laid out at a distance of 1-2 cm, and the cavity is filled with cement-sand mortar.

Geotextiles must first be laid at the bottom of the pit.

After the foundation is ready, the master proceeds to laying the walls of the furnace.

The base is divided into 2 parts; firewood will be placed in these stoves.

The walls rise in 3 rows of these stones, it all depends on your height, of course, you need to build according to yourself naturally.

Then the tabletop is made; in this case, the author used curbs from paving slabs.

2 rows of brazier stones are laid out on the base of the tabletop.

A metal rod is placed in the seam at a distance of 10 cm from the surface of the tabletop, and the rest at a distance of at least 5 cm.

You can also improve this oven and make it closed. Here the same process only the tabletop was made separately. On a flat surface, formwork is knocked together from boards, waterproofing material is laid in the lower part and stones are laid at a distance of 1-2 cm from each other, after which everything is filled with liquid cement-sand mortar.

The arch is laid with stone on a cement-sand mortar; a metal rod and reinforcing mesh are added to strengthen the structure.

The article contains information on how to choose the right stone grill for installation on the site of a private house or cottage. After studying it, you will understand why it is profitable to make a massive stationary barbecue from stone, what you need to take into account when choosing its design and installation location. This will provide the necessary theoretical basis for communicating with managers of specialized companies or private owners involved in the construction of such barbecues. Knowledge of this issue will allow you to avoid unnecessary expenses and order exactly what you need without sacrificing quality and the desired result.

A barbecue made of natural stone will create an atmosphere of comfort and decorate the surrounding space.

What he really is

Stone barbecues for summer cottages are massive structures made of natural stone, connected by a binder base of natural clay and sand. To install it, you need a reliable and massive foundation. The structure made of natural stone has a look as close as possible to the natural environment. There are many types of barbecues, from simple designs to complex complex structures for preparing a variety of dishes that harmoniously combine with a place to relax.

Advantages

Experts attribute the following to the main advantages of barbecues or barbecues made of stone:

    spectacular, respectable and status appearance;

    high strength;

    long lasting lifetime;

    excellent sustainability to all external influences (temperature and humidity changes, precipitation, low temperatures getting hot oil on stones, etc.);

    high fire resistance(you don’t have to worry about deformation and melting);

    excellent durability to mechanical wear;

    does not absorb moisture(which is important when used at low temperatures);

    practically does not absorb odors;

    do not require special care;

    easy to clean using a virtually unlimited range of detergents;

    ample opportunities in terms of design and breadth functionality.

What stone can it be made from?

Stone barbecues for summer cottages can be built from both natural and artificial stone. If the choice is made in favor of a natural material, then granite, shungite, sandstone, quartzite, slate and granite can be used for this task.

On our website you can get acquainted with the most . In the filters you can set the desired direction, the presence of gas, water, electricity and other communications.

The shape of the stones will determine the labor intensity of building a barbecue, and therefore its cost. Stones such as torn rubble, thallus and flagstone are considered easy to install.

If, in order to achieve maximum exclusivity, the choice falls on rough cobblestones of irregular shape, then you will have to “pay” for this by increasing the labor intensity of construction work and increased consumption of binding materials. At the same time, the arrangement of such a barbecue will require the involvement of highly qualified masons. All this together will affect the cost of a barbecue or barbecue made of stones.

The use of an artificial stone substitute, on the contrary, will allow you to save both on the price of the material and by reducing the labor intensity of the work due to the most convenient form of artificial stones for laying. In addition, artificial material can be modified with the help of special additives, which provide the material with additional resistance to moisture and high temperatures.

How to install a barbecue

A brazier or barbecue oven made of stone is constructed according to the following standard algorithm:

    choice standard project or ordering an individual construction project;

    choice of location for arranging a stone brazier;

    definition geometric parameters of the grill, its base, decorative and auxiliary and complementary elements;

    site preparation for the construction of a brazier;

    installation of concrete foundation;

    arrangement basement part designs;

    construction walls and the working surface of the barbecue (laying stones);

    finishing finishing;

    construction or installation decorative, auxiliary and complementary elements(canopy, benches, surfaces for cutting meat, firewood, shelves for dishes, etc.).

On our website you can find contacts of construction companies that offer construction services for small architectural forms. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the “Low-Rise Country” exhibition of houses.

Variety of projects

Choosing the most suitable barbecue design is mainly determined by the desired functionality and the desired design style. From a functional point of view, these can be either small braziers intended exclusively for frying meat or vegetables, or serious structures that are multifunctional grill zones. In terms of design style, the choice usually occurs between the following varieties:

    designs in the style of minimalism(neat structures with smooth walls and smooth surfaces);

    stylized as primitive“brutal” structures with braziers, built roughly and chaotically from stones of different sizes;

    neat and sophisticated barbecues in a classic or antique style made of stones of almost the same shape and size and decorative cladding.

Selecting a location

As a rule, to create maximum comfort while relaxing in the fresh air, a brazier is built near or inside (with smoke removal system equipment) covered structures that protect from precipitation. These can be various verandas, gazebos, terraces, summer kitchens. If the area of the plot does not allow the placement of such structures, then a certain area in front of the house or in the backyard is simply allocated for the construction of a barbecue area.

When choosing a location for a brazier, the following factors are taken into account: wind direction, proximity of the fireplace to flammable objects (shrubs, trees, unprotected wooden structures, dry annual vegetation), compatibility with the environment, proximity of the eating area. But when prioritizing factors, the main thing, of course, is compliance with fire safety requirements.

Dimensions of the roaster and foundation

The dimensions of the barbecue are determined by the list of tasks that it allows to implement, as well as the number of potential eaters of the meat or other dishes produced on it. In this case, the mass of natural stone should be taken into account.

Unlike a regular metal barbecue, a stone product may require a very massive foundation. And all this will affect the amount of concrete and reinforcement for constructing the slab, and therefore the cost of constructing the barbecue area as a whole. In this regard, when planning the size of the fryer and its functionality, it is necessary to minimize unnecessary frills without compromising the desired result.

Site and foundation preparation

The first step in preparing the site is to mark it, usually using pegs and rope or a spray can of paint. The boundaries of the foundation of the brazier are fixed with laces or paint. The next step is to construct a hole for the foundation, its depth is usually about 30 cm, it can vary depending on the depth of soil freezing in the region.

The boundaries of the pit usually exceed the boundaries of the foundation by 15-20 cm. Then a sand and gravel cushion is prepared and compacted (including watering). Formwork is installed on the cushion, into which metal reinforcing elements are placed. The final operation is pouring concrete; after it has hardened, the formwork is removed and waterproofing is created using roofing felt or rich clay.

Construction of the plinth, walls and working surface of the barbecue

To create a brazier, you will need a number of specialized tools: a level, a chisel, a trowel, a sledgehammer, a chisel, an angle grinder with a set of diamond discs, a carpenter's hammer, a pick, a wheelbarrow, a concrete mixer, a bucket, bayonet and shovel shovels, jointing and much more.

The stones of the base, walls, and working surface are fastened together not with cement, but with a specially prepared solution of clay and sand. The masonry begins with more massive stones, based on the principle that the higher the row, the less the mass of its constituent elements, relative to the previous row.

Finishing

To increase aesthetic appeal or give a certain design style, the walls of a stone brazier can be finished with decorative stone of a certain texture and color. Metal, main functional, decorative and auxiliary elements of the barbecue area, depending on their purpose, are installed either during the construction of walls and work surfaces, or during the finishing process.

Video description

From the video you can learn how to make a stone grill with your own hands:

Conclusion

Despite the apparent simplicity of structures made of natural stone for frying meat, these are quite expensive structures when compared with a conventional steel grill. In order not to be disappointed with the result, having spent several tens of thousands of rubles, it is better to entrust the construction of the brazier to a professional.
